As a former Hillary Clinton supporter and a woman between the age of 35-50, I was relieved this morning to learn that I would be voting for John McCain now that he has chosen a woman as his running mate. I don't have a mind of my own, so I was so thankful the TV told me how I am going to vote.
Sarah Palin? Really? The woman has been Governor of Alaska for 18 months. Before that she was the mayor (a part-time job) of a city with the population of 8,000 people. Her accomplishments before that appear to be an accomplished high school basketball career and second place in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant.
I have followed Obama since his run for U.S. Senate in Illinois, when my SEIU friends busted their butts to get him elected. He dazzled me in 2004 at the Democratic National Convention. He's an amazing guy. When this campaign started (how long ago?) I decided to support Hillary Clinton. Hillary lost and I came to this convention prepared to vote for Barack Obama. After Hillary's speech I was jazzed about the Obama candidacy. After Hillary cast her vote for Obama, I did the same. When she stopped the roll call and nominated Obama by acclamation -- I cheered. Next came Bill Clinton -- my enthusiasm was building. Then there was last night -- the culmination of the week-long convention. Wow. I left the stadium walking on air! Make no mistake -- I was never going to vote for McCain. But this convention has turned me into more than an Obama voter -- I'm an Obama supporter. I support the values and politics of the Obama/Biden ticket.
Now I'm told by John McCain and the talking heads in the mainstream media that I am a brainless woman who will jump on board with his campaign simply because he found a woman to run with him. What a serious miscalculation by McCain. If I was walking on air last night, I'm ready to fight this morning.
We are going to learn a lot more about Palin over the next couple of days. I'm sure the mainstream media will continue to underestimate the intelligence and power of women in this country. John McCain just threw down the gauntlet. He has chosen an idealogical extremist and made the decision that this election will not be about the failed policies of the last 8 years -- it's now about conservative extremism versus progressive change. This is no longer a fight to win middle of the road voters -- this is straight up left versus right. Whoever turns out their base wins.
I'm going to answer the call. Will you?

YES!! And I hope the campaign turns Hillary loose on Palin. Hillz will cut a pro-Obama swath across this country that would make Sherman cringe.
This was a pathetic and transparent attempt to sway Hillary voters, and I almost wonder if McCain is trying to lose this election. Why these media types think any self-respecting woman would vote for this regressive anti-choice beauty queen is beyond me.
YES WE CAN and YES I WILL!
If McCain hasn't already proved he is an idiot, he definitely has now!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!
McCain/MILF 2008
Palin's credentials...

As an Independent voter who kind of feels abandoned by both parties to a certain degree, my first reaction was, is he kidding?
I agree with you that at first blush this looks like a painfully obvious attempt to "trick" women into voting for him (like all women are dumb enough to fall for this, just like they assumed that every woman voted for Hillary in the first place). I do blame the media (who are just pathetic) for some of that jab.
However, I at least respect the fact that as McCain has evolved from a Republican "outsider" to more of a mainstream Republican over the past 4 years (which scares the heebie jeebies out of me) that he at least went outside of the Washington Republican circle to find a running mate. While the choice certainly seems odd, at least she's not a Washington insider.
As a middle of the roader the phrase "it's now about conservative extremism versus progressive change" bothers me. it should be it's now about conservative extremism versus liberal extremeism or it's now about traditional family values versus progressive change. Those two statements either show both as extreme, which they are, or both as spins of the truth. Either way I agree, this year is less about the country and more about red vs blue... can't we all just be purple!
Did the convention settle on an anti-spam policy in the platform?
Wow - Obama is qualifed to be president because of a good speech at the DNC in 2004 and about a year as a US senator. He has been on the stump for president for most of his senate term. Palin is unqualified to be VP because she is attractive. As usual, a liberal says everyone on the Republican side is an extremist, but their guys are "progressive." I hate hypocrisy. The truth is that a libertarian view is the only non-hypocritical view. Less government period! Liberals want the government all over business, the enviornment, etc. while wanting the government out of our personal life. Republicans are just the opposite - leave business only, etc. while interfering in personal life. I just want less government period! When was the last time the government shrunk at all? Never! Where does this lead? The people of this nation are generally hard working good people who can take care of themselves, while showing compassion for others. We don't need big government and all it's inefficiences to interfere in life. I wish people on both sides would just be more honest. If you are a liberal - admit it. If you are a conservative - admit it. Don't call the other side "extreme" when your views are just as "extreme" in the other direction.
Not only do I question John McCain's judgment in picking Palin, I question Palin's judgment in accepting the offer. Her family is going through difficult times, bonding and learning to care for a disabled infant and now news that her daughter is pregnant. It is as if she threw her daughter under the bus in order to accept the nomination--just at a time when her daughter needs her mother in her corner. Who thinks that is a good idea?
The Lamb
(1)
Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead:
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
(2)
Little Lamb, I'll tell thee,
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a Lamb.
He is meek and He is mild;
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
Little Lamb, God bless thee!
Little Lamb, God bless thee!
