At 6:00 PM the General Assembly adjourned. We got a lot of good things passed, but most notable are the bad things we stopped. No new restrictions on reproductive health, no TABOR, no attacks on the independence of the judiciary, no voter ID.
Let's work hard this summer to get progressive candidates elected, so we can start to reverse the damage of the last four years of a failed administration.

Word!
Thanks for all your great work for the people of Missouri. I wish we had more Senators like you!
what can we do to work hard? any links to people needind some help?
You're learning Grasshopper. Time is not infinite in the Missouri General Assembly- especially the last two days.
Just a comment I will send to KC Star and Jay Nixon himself...To Mr. Nixon, you are a representative of the Democrats of the state of Missouri, and after four years of terror that Mr.Blunt has brought to this state we feel its time for a change. But today after reading the artical in the Kansas City Star I was dismayed at your stand on California's decision on gay marrige. As you know the Democratic Party stated:
June 3, 2008
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today joined Massachusetts Democratic Representative Barney Frank and Wisconsin Democratic Representative Tammy Baldwin in issuing the following Proclamation marking PRIDE Month:
"Today, on behalf of Democrats across America, we join together in celebrating the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans and their families make to our society and reaffirm our Party's commitment to promoting full equality under the law for every American.
"As leaders of the Democratic Party, we stand proudly with the LGBT community and commit ourselves to working together to build an America that is truly inclusive. Every American has the right to live in dignity, with equal rights, responsibilities and protections under the law. These are our country's and our Party's core values. Across the country, at every level of government, Democrats have championed sweeping protections in the areas of employment, housing, domestic partnerships and civil unions, adoption, gender identity or expression, and hate crimes.
"Despite all we have accomplished, our work is not done. We need to fight efforts to write discrimination into our laws and constitutions. We need to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, pass the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act, and repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' We need a comprehensive, science-based strategy for combating HIV/AIDS. We must address the socioeconomic problems, including poverty and limited access to health care, that increase vulnerability to this disease.
"To do all of these things we need to put a Democrat in the White House, expand our majorities in Congress, and elect more Democrats at the local and state level across the country. To do that, we need you. Get active, get involved, and join us so we can take our country back."
Mr. Nixon, I was totally prepared to fight for your nomination for Governor over all the other candidates "who want to protect my moral and ethical lifestyle" according to their standards. But I am appalled that your are the best the Democratic party has to offer to this state. Personally, I feel it might be best to find an alternative democratic choice. You may not feel that the GLBT population in this state is not viable or anything you have to worry about, so I probably don't have to remind you of what we can do when we stand together. June 12, 1967- Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren stated that no state had the power to prevent marriges between persons on the basis of racial classifications, this violates the equal protection and due process of the law. He stated that those laws were created as part of a democratic process: if 2 people of different races made love it was a misdemeanor as long as they were not married. If they were married, it was a felony. The states said that they wanted to "protect the saunctity of marrige" Sound familiar? As far as using religion as an excuse, Christ never mentioned anything about homosexuals but had plenty to say on the matter of hate. "Love you neighbor as well as yourself". Christ never called us to be judge and jury, but said "judge not, least ye be judged". Remember, Christ himself lived on the margins of society, would you prosecute him today? It just made me wonder why you feel you even belong to the Democratic Party-since I see all types of persons jumping to different political parties either for convienience or power. As my father told me, "a call to political office is an obligation and a privilige, not a career." But the most disturbing part about the artical was that you put your own personal views into the issue, and not those of the Democratic party in this state. I hope this allows you to open your eyes or maybe, in the least, reconsider your personal opinions and do the job your supposed to be doing....or maybe be doing. Thanks for listening.
